    Step 1: Checking In (luggage check-in & getting boarding pass)

Please go to check-in counters to proceed with luggage check-in and getting your boarding pass with airplane tickets and valid travel documents.

Tips

  • Please make sure of the boarding gate on the boarding pass, go through procedures, including inspection and quarantine, customs and frontier inspections, and reach designated boarding gate in time. To guarantee smooth boarding, you are advised to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight takes off. Check-in counters normally close 40 minutes before takeoff unless otherwise required on the ticket. You should take your passport, necessary visa, travel documents, cash, bills and other valuables with you.

Regulations on luggage to be taken onboard flight

  • On international flights: Under normal circumstances, the total weight of each piece of luggage should be no more than 5 kilograms, with bag size no bigger than 20¡Á40¡Á55cm (total of length, width and height should be no more than 115cm). For flights to the United States and Canada, each passenger can only take one piece of luggage. (Some airlines have their own rules on luggage weight, please check your ticket or inquire with your airline for details.)

Regulations on luggage consignment

  • 1. Passengers should pay attention to the notice on their airline ticket or inquire with the airline for detailed information regarding their flight, seats etc. Generally, for first-class ticket holders the weight limit is 40 kilograms, for business class ticket holders the weight limit is 30 kilograms, and for economy class ticket holders it is 20 kilograms. For flights to the US and Canada, first-class ticket holders and business class passengers can check in 2 pieces of luggage free of charge, with each no more than 32 kilograms and the dimension (the total of length, width and height) of each piece not exceeding 158cms. Economy class ticket holders can check in 2 pieces of luggage free of charge, with each no more than 23 kilograms. The dimension of each piece of luggage should be no more than 158cms and for 2 pieces no more than 273cms in total. Passengers are required to pay for extra weight or length.
  • 2. Goods that cannot be checked in include: important documents and material, securities, cash, bill of exchange, jewelry, precious metals and products, antiques and artworks, fragile goods, perishable goods, samples, travel documents, precious goods, etc. (For details please inquire with the airline)
  • 3. Please clear old baggage codes or tags with codes before checking in your luggage to ensure your bags reach the right destination.
     Step 2: Inspection & Quarantine
   Monitoring of infectious diseases

  1. Checking health certificate. Chinese citizens leaving the country for more than one year are required to present a valid health certificate containing information on their HIV/AIDS test results, issued by a quarantine and inspection institution or hospital (at or above county level). Passengers who fail to provide valid health certificates are advised to go to their nearest exit inspection and quarantine office to have all required tests conducted before departure will be permitted.
  2. Checking vaccination certificate. Chinese passengers travelling to countries known to have a high risk of yellow fever transmission will have to produce a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate prior to exiting the country. Individuals failing to produce said evidence will be asked to be vaccinated before departure. Visitors travelling to areas known to be affected by cholera may consider voluntary vaccination or other forms of disease prevention.
  3. Checking temperature, undergoing medical observation, health inquiry and consultation. Tests of body temperature and other forms of medical observation at the airport will be carried out on all outbound passengers. Passengers suffering from epidemic diseases and those suspected to be infected will be prohibited from leaving the country and will receive full epidemic investigation and medical examination, on the basis of which decisions for further action will be made. Travelers to endemic disease high-risk areas will be supplied with appropriate medication. Health consultation and information on travel health, as well as travel health kits are available on request. Medical safeguards will be provided for departing passengers infected with HIV/AIDS or other infectious diseases.
   Inspection of passengers¡¯ belongings

  1. Any inspection of departing passengers¡¯ belongings is usually undertaken upon passengers¡¯ requests, in accordance with the inspection and quarantine requirements of the destination or internationally valid agreements.
  2. Passengers traveling with pets are required to apply for inspection of their animals in advance, and need to produce proof of valid rabies vaccinations upon inspection. All pets will be inspected in accordance with the requirements of the destination and upon successful completion are issued with an Animal Health Certificate, granting permission to exit.

 

 

     Step 3: Customs Check
Passengers are required to fill in the Customs declaration form if they are carrying prohibited goods or goods which have export limits or products that must be declared according to effective Customs regulations. The above-mentioned passengers should enter the Red Channel to declare their goods while other passengers can use the Green Channel.

Regulations on declaration of goods at Customs for outbound passengers:

1. Passengers should fill in two declaration forms when travelling overseas with cameras, video recorders, laptops and other goods, worth over 5,000 yuan, which are for personal use and which will be brought back after their trip. After checking, Customs will return one form to the passenger after putting a seal or sign so that the passenger can bring back the goods into the country.

2. Customs will handle the case according to regulations when passengers carry with them more than 20,000 yuan in cash or foreign currency equivalent to or over US$5,000.

3. Customs will handle the case according to regulations when passengers carry precious metals, including gold and silver.

4. Customs will handle the case according to regulations when passengers carry cultural relics, endangered animals or plants and related products.

5. Customs will handle the case according to regulations when passengers carry radio transmitting-receiving sets and communication security machines.

6. Customs will handle the case according to regulations when passengers carry prohibited items or goods with export limits.

7. Customs will handle the case according to regulations when passengers carry goods, samples and advertisement products.




     Step 4: Border Control

For foreign travelers, please make sure you hold a valid passport and entry visa for the People¡¯s Republic of China.

For Chinese travellers, travellers from Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan, please make sure you hold a valid passport, visa and pass, as well as an entry permit issued by the authorities concerned.

For foreign travellers, please hand in your valid passport, visa, exit card and boarding card for inspection, and exit the country within the permitted time limit on your valid entry visa.

     Step 5: Security Control
To ensure the safety of all travelers, every passenger is required to undergo security screening at the airport.

To ensure smooth boarding, please keep your boarding pass in good condition, without folding it.
To ensure the security of passengers, the Civil Aviation Administration of China prohibits passengers from taking cigarette lighters or match sticks onboard flights.
Security Check notes:

What goods are prohibited from checking in or taking on to airplane?

Guns, ammunition, controlled knives, police instruments, flammables, explosives (e.g. lighter gas, alcohol, paint, fireworks and firecrackers), corrosives, highly toxic materials, lighters, matchsticks and other dangerous goods.


Are fruit knives allowed to be taken onboard airplane?

No. All edged tools, blunts, except controlled knives, must be checked in and cannot be taken onboard airplane.


What goods are referred to as fluid, gel and mist spray?

Fluid, gel and mist spray include: beverages, such as mineral water, drink, soup and syrup; cream, body lotion, skin oil, perfume and cosmetics; mist spray and compressed container, e.g. shaving foam and body mist; cream-shaped goods, e.g. toothpaste, contact lens liquid; gel, e.g. for hairdressing and bath; any liquid or goods with similar thickness.


What are the requirements on taking international flights?

To ensure passengers¡¯ security and safety of their property, the Civil Aviation Administration of China prohibits passengers from taking cigarette lighters or match sticks onboard airplanes. As for liquids taken by passengers onboard domestic flights, the regulations are as follows:
For passengers taking international or domestic flights from airports within China¡¯s border, each liquid product should not exceed 100 milliliters, and liquid containers, no larger than 1 liter, should be put inside a transparent plastic bag with resealable zip. Each passenger can only take one plastic bag, and the rest must be checked in.
The transparent plastic bag with liquids must go through security check separately.
For passengers from overseas who need to transfer to domestic flights, they must keep the duty-free liquids inside the sealed plastic bag and produce the sales receipt. They are allowed to take the liquids only after the confirmation of security check.
After confirmation of security checks, passengers with babies can take liquid dairy products, and patients with diabetes and other diseases can take necessary liquid medicines.
      



    Can passengers on international flight take water, drinks or food with liquid through the security checks at airport?

    For passengers taking international or domestic flights from within China, each liquid product should not exceed 100 milliliters, with the liquid container, not larger than 1 liter, put inside a transparent plastic bag with resealable zip. Each passenger can only take one plastic bag, and the rest must be checked-in. The transparent plastic bag must go through security check separately.
    In controlled area there will be free drinking water for passengers, or they can buy water or drinks in shops. Airlines also provide drinking water on flight.


    How can passengers prepare in advance in order to speed up security check?

    Before departing for the airport, leave some time for security check. Goods that will not to be used on the flight should be put into the luggage and checked in.


    What medicines are exempt from confiscation?

    Liquid medicine in containers of no more than 100 milliliters can pass security check. The medicine should be handed over for a security check separately in order to undergo X-ray inspection.

    Can liquid medicines bought at pharmacies without doctor¡¯s prescriptions pass security check?

    Liquid medicine in containers of no more than 100 milliliters can pass security check.


    If a passenger has diabetes, what restrictions on medicine are in place?

    Passengers suffering from diabetes can take enough insulin and injectors with needles onboard. However, they have to produce medical proof.


    How much milk, fruit juice and food for babies can a passenger take to go through security check?

    A passenger can take no more than 100 milliliters of milk, fruit juice and food for babies onboard a flight. If a passenger carries containers of more than 100 milliliters, he/she should hand it over for security check. To avoid inconvenience, passengers should put milk, fruit juice and food for babies in check-in luggage as far as possible unless they are to be consumed on the flight.


    Is it stipulated that liquids must be in their original container?

    No. Any container for liquid, gel or spray can be used so long as it¡¯s no more than 100 milliliters. Liquids exceeding 100 milliliters cannot be taken in hand luggage and have to be checked in.


    Is it necessary to use transparent containers?

    No.


    Is it permitted to take contact lens solution?

    Contact lens solution cannot be put in containers larger than 100 milliliters. Liquids exceeding 100 milliliters cannot be taken in hand luggage and have to be checked in.


    Is it permitted to take lipsticks or body deodorants onto plane?

    It¡¯s permitted to take any solid cosmetics, including lipsticks and body deodorants. However, they have to be in containers no larger than 100 milliliters. Anything exceeding 100 milliliters has to be checked in.




    Do liquid, gel and mist spray include toothpaste and shaving foam?

    Yes, they have to be in containers no larger than 100 milliliters. Anything exceeding 100 milliliters has to be checked in.




    What to do if liquid, gel and mist spray and containers fail to pass security check?

    Goods that fail security check have to be abandoned. It is therefore advisable for passengers to put liquid, gel and mist spray in their check-in luggage.




    Can passengers take liquid products bought after security check onboard outbound plane in the international departure area?

    Yes. After security check, passengers can take liquid products bought at shops in controlled area of the airport onboard outbound plane. For passengers who need to transfer overseas, they need to make sure the plastic bags are intact during the air trip. They cannot open the seal and have to retain their boarding pass and sales receipt for check while transferring. Passengers can inquire about the detailed regulation on liquid products in advance.




    Are lithium batteries permitted to be taken onboard plane?

    All electronic devices with lithium batteries can be taken onboard plane or checked in. However, backup lithium batteries taken onboard plane should be insulated properly. Lithium batteries can be taken onboard plane or checked in provided the content of lithium is no more than 2 grams or the maximum capacity is no more than 100Wh. For lithium batteries with maximum capacity between 100 and 160Wh, a written permission has to be produced by the airlines so that traveller can check in the batteries, and each traveller can only take a maximum of 2 pieces. Lithium batteries with maximum capacity above 160Wh, cannot be checked in. The way to calculate the capacity of lithium batteries: Maximum capacity (Wh)=Nominal voltage(V) x maximum electric quantity (Ah)


     Step 6£ºWaiting for boarding
Having successfully passed the security check, you can relax or wait for boarding at the designated gate.
     Step 7: Boarding

Under normal condition, boarding starts around 40 minutes before takeoff. Passengers should pay attention to broadcast announcements. On boarding the plane, you need to show your boarding pass (some airlines might ask you to show your passport).
