Located in the east of Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, and 27 kilometers from the downtown area，Relying on the abundant passenger and freight resources in Zhejiang Province and its surrounding areas and the booming aviation market demand, Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport has witnessed a soaring growth in transportation production and an increasing scale of airline network since its completion and operation.
In 2007, the airport witnessed the passenger throughput break through 10 million person-times for the first time, enabling it to rank among the busy airports in the world. In 2013 and 2016, the annual passenger throughput of the airport exceeded 20 million and 30 million person-times, respectively.
Subject to the principle of “one-time planning and phased construction”, the airport was constructed in three phases: near, medium and long term. Conduct strategic cooperation and learn management experience of advanced international airports
On December 18, 2006, Hangzhou Airport reached strategic and comprehensive joint venture cooperation with Hong Kong International Airport, the “World’s Best Airport”, aiming to learn from the management experience of advanced international airports, thus becoming the first overall foreign joint venture airport in mainland China.
For the purpose of enhancing the development momentum and strengthening the comprehensive service support capacity, Hangzhou Airport launched Phase II expansion project in 2006. On November 8, 2007, the Phase II project was officially started, which was scheduled to be completed by 2020, and proposed to build new international terminal, the second domestic terminal and the second runway. The project was fully completed and put into operation on December 30, 2012.
The completion and launch of the Phase II project greatly improved the operation quality of Hangzhou Airport. In the future, the airport will open up more domestic and foreign routes, provide Chinese and foreign passengers with more safe, comfortable and convenient flight services, and make more choices available for public travel, thus laying a solid foundation for Hangzhou Airport to further accelerate the pace of building regional aviation hub and modern aviation city and realize leapfrog development in accordance with the Opinions of the State Council on Promoting Civil Aviation Development, promoting the transformation and upgrading of Zhejiang’s industrial economy, and injecting strong impetus into the construction of “material abundance and spiritual enrichment” featured modern Zhejiang.
